Education Action Zones

Education Action Zones (EAZ) are designed to address the issues of pockets within cities of acute educational problems. They allow local partnerships to develop and flourish to target action and develop innovative and radical solutions to longstanding problems that lead to low educational standards. There are currently 117 Zones in existence nationally.

Salford has four EiC Action Zones. These are:

  • Eccles - based on Salford City Academy and its six main partner primary schools.
  • Hulton - based on Harrop Fold and its nine main partner primary schools.
  • Irwell - based on The Albion High School and its nine main partner primary schools.
  • Salford East - based on All Hallows and its ten main partner primary schools.

Each Zone has a Director who is responsible to a Zone Forum, largely comprising Headteachers from schools in the Zone, for the production of an annual Action Plan and for the monitoring and evaluation of projects running within Zones. Each Zone has three areas of main activity that are identified locally around need. Zones work closely with the Salford Business Education Partnership in developing business links. Zone Directors meet on a termly basis to share information and there is peer review of activity annually.
