Environment and Community Safety directorate

The Environment and Community Safety directorate is responsible for a host of services in the city, from highly visible activities like refuse collection and street cleansing to less noticeable tasks like dealing with contaminated land.

The Lead Member for Environment is Cllr Ray Mashiter and the Lead Member for Community Safety is Cllr David Lancaster. The directorate's strategic director is Ben Dolan.

The directorate has lead responsibility for the council's strategic objective of "ensuring the city has a clean, safe, healthy and sustainable environment" as part of the 7 Pledges initiative. It supports and contributes to other council objectives to improve the environment in Salford including personal health, recreation and leisure, and community safety.

The directorate actively pursues quality standards such as the government's Customer Service Excellence standard and has also attained Investor in People status.

We believe in firm but fair regulations, and a summary of our enforcement and prosecution policy is available on this website.
