Environment task group
The East Salford Environment Task Group is responsible for identifying opportunities to improve the local environment. It also provides a voice for local residents in partnership with agencies such as Environment Services, Housing, Housing Market Renewal and Countryside Properties to tackle any local concerns relating to parks, open spaces, road or derelict properties in East Salford.
Some of the issues we have addressed so far include
- Derelict properties
- Community planting days
- Fly-tipping
Last year a major audit of open green spaces was carried out across Central Salford, this was to assess how many areas were neglected or in a poor condition. The audit has been completed in partnership with Salford City Council, Salix Homes, URC and Groundwork.
It became apparent from speaking to hundreds of residents through door surveys and on site visits that many sites needed improving, a general tidy or a major clean up operation.
A pilot "Clean Team" has been established. The team of six and a supervisor is providing employment opportunities for local people in addition to improving the open space sites.
Using the sites identified by Groundwork the Environment Task Group prioritised the programme of works. This will be presented at the next East Salford Community Committee.
The identified sites will also become mainstreamed into Environmental Services' maintenance delivery programme.
If you have something to discuss then please contact either Kelly Wray (Community Development Worker) on 0161 792 4945 or Claire Fewings (Assistant Neighbourhood Manager) on 0161 708 9455.
