Salford equipment services
As part of your assessment, we may:
- Advise you and give you training on living independently. This means finding new ways to do your daily living tasks such as shopping, washing, dressing and cooking. It also means finding ways to let you carry on with other things in your life - work, social life, keeping fit, hobbies, etc
- Offer you daily living and mobility equipment to help with daily living tasks such as tap turners, shower seats and automatic curtain closers
- Offer you telecare equipment which send automatic alerts if you get into difficulties
- Adapt your home (building work) so that you can use it properly such as stair lifts, shower rooms, widening doorways
- Suggest seeing a social worker who will be able to talk with you about other support
Does the service cost?
All of our equipment is loaned to you so there is no charge. Our training is also free. If we suggest adapting your home, we can advise you on any grants that you may be able to apply for, which will help to cover the cost of the work.
What happens if my equipment breaks?
Because we still own the equipment, we will repair or replace it if it breaks. We do ask you to let us know if you no longer need it and we can arrange to return it. You can contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.
Buying your own equipment
You may want to buy your own equipment. For example, you may want to buy a particular model of equipment which is more expensive than the model we would loan you. We can still advise you what would be best.
If we are loaning you equipment, you can choose a personal budget instead. This is where we give you money to buy your own equipment or support. We will give you the amount that the equipment would have cost us. We still need to agree that it will meet your needs.
For people who cannot get in and out of the bath, we suggest a bath lift. Some people prefer to use a personal budget to help with the cost of buying a shower over the bath.
If you do decide to use a personal budget in this way, you need to remember that the equipment is yours. Therefore you have to maintain it and are responsible if it breaks down.
