Salford Museum and Art Gallery

Visits with your ESOL group

We welcome ESOL groups at all levels at Salford Museum and Art Gallery and are very keen for tutors and students to get involved and find out about life in Salford in the past.

As part of your visit we can arrange one or more of these museum-led sessions:

Lark Hill Place

Go back into the past in a typical street with shops and look at how people used to live. Dress up and find out about everyday life!

Victorian Gallery

Learn about the Victorian age in Salford and find out about four paintings in the gallery with the help of a guide. Practise your art and description skills and learn more about life in the past.

Together these sessions last two hours and are appropriate for learners at all levels.

You can download our ESOL Resource Pack below for more information about the museum and activities for the visit. You can also use this pack for vocabulary preparation, background information and project ideas for the classroom.

Object handling boxes

We have a number of handling boxes you can use with your ESOL groups:Victorian daily life, Victorian children and Victorian toys and games.

These boxes contain reproduction objects and learning activities that you can book out to use during your visit. They make an interesting addition, particularly to a self-guided visit.

ESOL at Ordsall Hall

This magnificent black and white half-timbered Tudor manor house is in the heart of Salford. We are developing our visits for ESOL groups at Ordsall Hall to give learners an insight into Tudor times and bring the past to life with activities such as dancing, music making, pomander making and brass rubbing. Please contact Bev Davies on 0161 778 0837 if you would like to help us with this project.
