Salford Museum: English for speakers of other languages (ESOL)
Salford Museum podcasts
Bev Davies worked with level 1 learners at Salford College who have created podcasts as a result of their visits to Salford Museum and Art Gallery as part of their work on pronunciation, accuracy and clarify in speech and also in writing.
Visits with your ESOL group
We welcome ESOL groups at all levels at Salford Museum and Art Gallery and are very keen for tutors and students to get involved and find out about life in Salford in the past.
As part of your visit we can arrange one or more of these museum-led sessions:
Lark Hill Place
Go back into the past in a typical street with shops and look at how people used to live. Dress up and find out about everyday life!
Victorian Gallery
Learn about the Victorian age in Salford and find out about four paintings in the gallery with the help of a guide. Practice your art and description skills and learn more about life in the past.
Together these sessions last two hours and are appropriate for learners at all levels.
You can download our ESOL Resource Pack below for more information about the museum and activities for the visit. You can also use this pack for vocabulary preparation, background information and project ideas for the classroom.

Object handling boxes
We have a number of handling boxes you can use with your ESOL groups: Victorian daily life, Victorian children and Victorian toys and games.
