Fostering

Could you be a foster carer?

At Salford City Council we value our foster carers, including providing our carers with training, emotional and practical support. Our most recent Ofsted inspection was 'good' with 'outstanding' aspects with the report stating that "foster carers are well supported to meet the needs of children and young people in their care."

You can read the full report by downloading the PDF document at the bottom of this page.

In Salford we have many looked after children in need of a foster carer who is committed to their welfare and able to offer a caring and supportive home. There are a variety of foster care schemes, from short term to long term, as well as our salaried schemes, 3D fostering and Focus fostering care, for children with particularly complex needs.

We especially need foster carers to look after older children and sibling groups, as well as carers for both the 3D fostering and Focus fostering schemes. We’ve included some profiles so you can find out about some of the children who are looking for a safe and supportive home.

Our foster carers come from diverse backgrounds; you can be single, married, living together, divorced or separated, heterosexual or gay. Foster carers need to have the maturity, experience and energy to meet the needs of a foster child. We welcome applications from people over 21, and have no upper age limit.

Children really benefit from being placed with foster carers who share their language, religion and culture and we welcome applications from people from all backgrounds. You can read about some of our foster families in their profiles.

If you think fostering might be for you, we’d love to hear from you. We provide comprehensive training, excellent support and weekly allowances of £169 to £619 per child, per week (including a skills payment).

We also hold open evenings, where you can talk to foster carers and ask questions.

Call the family placement team on 0161 799 1268 for an information pack or informal discussion, or email us at family.recruitment@salford.gov.uk.
