Future Jobs in Salford
Do you need help looking for work?
Come along to the open day, it's on Friday 16 March at Innovation House, Salford Civic Centre, Swinton.
If you would like to find out more about what support is available to help you get back into work, Salford City Council is holding an open day for all currently unemployed Salford residents. Advisors will be on hand to talk you through your options, including Future Job placements, work clubs or the Salford talent pool. Please call Marie Scott on 0161 793 2508 to reserve your informal appointment.
Some comments we have had from people who have used the service are:
Victoria Dunbar working in admin with the Organisational Development and Training Team:
After not working for ten years, "The work placement has refreshed the skills that I have. It seemed a bit daunting at first but I settled in really quickly. I am really enjoying the experience."
Angela Lynch, admin with Salford Primary Care Trust:
"The work placement has boosted my confidence, gained experience and skills. It looks good on my CV that I've done voluntary work."
Shamin Riaz, admin at the Civic Centre:
"I had been out of work for two years so I was not confident to work but the placement has built my confidence and I have learned a lot of new skills which make my CV look better."
Are you finding it difficult to get a job because you have little or no recent work experience?
The Future Jobs in Salford programme can help you gain experience in a number of different areas of work. The eight week placements are a valuable addition to your CV and allow you to see if you like that type of work. Our placements are mainly in the following areas:
- office based business administration roles (including financial services)
- manual work (e.g. catering, cleaning and gardening)
- sports and leisure
- customer service
- retail
- ICT and digital media
- social care
As well as developing specific job skills, you'll improve transferrable skills that employers look for such as time management, problem solving, team work and communication skills.
Having these skills and experience under your belt will help improve your chances of finding work and demonstrate to employers that you've taken the initiative to improve your skills and knowledge. Once you've completed the placement you'll go into the ‘Salford Talent Pool' and we'll put you forward to local employers who are looking to fill their vacancies for jobs and apprenticeships that you've told us you're interested in.
Although the placements are unpaid, you'll get a free bus pass so you won't be out of pocket. You'll also get a £20 high street voucher after four weeks of attending the placement.
