Greater Manchester Joint Waste Development Plan document
The Greater Manchester Joint Waste Development Plan document (the ‘Waste Plan') formally became part of Salford's local development framework on 1 April 2012.
The Waste Plan was prepared jointly between the ten Greater Manchester authorities, and it identifies how Greater Manchester will deliver the spatial vision for waste development to 2027.
It sets out policies to guide future waste development and identifies sites and areas suitable for the location of waste uses across Greater Manchester. The plan allocates seven sites within Greater Manchester specifically for waste management uses, and identifies a further 26 areas which are considered suitable locations for a range of waste management uses. In addition, the Waste Plan allocates two existing landfill sites for further extension. Within Salford, four areas are identified as suitable for a range of waste management uses, and one existing landfill site is allocated for further extension.
