Road gritting
Salford City Council carries out a regular winter road gritting programme which aims to, as far as possible, allow the safe movement of traffic on priority highways across the city.
Top priority is given to primary routes (see map below) and response times for full treatment (time taken from decision to salt being made to the completion of spreading) will not exceed three hours.
Other non-principal routes (secondary routes - see below) shall be treated, as and when necessary, following the completion of the primary routes. The target time for full treatment (time taken from the decision to salt being made to completion of spreading) shall not exceed eight hours.
The council's Sustainable Regeneration directorate is responsible for the overall management of the service and work is carried out by the Environment and Community Safety directorate.
The service consists of five scheduled routes maintaining 300 kilometres of highways in the city.
