Grounds maintenance
Over 60% of Salford is made up of precious green spaces which includes parks, playing fields, playgrounds, sports facilities, cemeteries, allotments and highway areas.
The council's grounds maintenance team is responsible for managing and maintaining this green space and provides a wide range of high quality horticultural services to improve the attractiveness of the local environment (view our image gallery).
Among some of the key services the team provide include:
Grass cutting and hedging
On average, over 140 million square metres of grass is cut in Salford between March and October each year - equal to around 20,000 football pitches.
We also maintain over three million linear metres of grass edging and prune over 30,000 linear metres of hedges every year.

Flower bedding
Each spring, colourful floral displays are planted throughout Salford and on average, over 200,000 bedding plants are planted annually.
A comprehensive shrub and rose bed maintenance service is also provided across the city.
Landscaping
We provide a range of landscaping services on behalf of schools, further educational establishments and housing associations across Salford and during the course of an average year we expect to carry out work on over 1,900 sites across the city.
Tree maintenance
We maintain all of the council's tree stock across the city which includes:
- Stump removal, chipping, cutting and treatment
- Dead wooding
- Crown thinning and lifting
- Tree felling and removal
We also provide a 24 hour emergency call out service, 365 days a year.
