Memory problems

If you are worried about your memory talk to your GP.

There could be many reasons for this, for example:

  • urinary tract infection (water infection) can leave you confused if you don't get it treated
  • depression can sometimes make it difficult to remember tasks and to think clearly
  • stress can also make it difficult to think clearly
  • age can also affect your memory, but generally it should not significantly affect your daily life
  • mild cognitive impairment is a medical condition which means that you have memory problems which impact on your daily life
  • dementia is a medical condition which means that you have memory problems which impact on your daily life and these problems will get worse

Dementia

In Salford, we believe in living well with dementia - getting a diagnosis early means that you can start to make plans and get on with the rest of your life. Salford City Council works with the local NHS, Alzheimer's Society, Age UK Salford, doctors and hospitals, Salford Carers Centre and other organisations, so that support is there for you.

Many people who are affected by dementia (both the person who has the diagnosis and their loved ones or carers) find support from other people who are also affected. There are groups across the city and we can put you in touch with them.
