Health improvement service

The health improvement service is located across eight neighbourhoods in Salford. It develops and runs projects that improve health and wellbeing within each area.
The service:
- engages with individuals, communities, local agencies and community groups to identify health priorities and develop local action plans
- provides health related projects within particular communities involves individuals and communities in developing activities to improve health and wellbeing
Activities we offer
We are involved in providing, or supporting others to deliver, a range of projects and activities that help individuals improve their health and wellbeing.
Activities are based on local need and may vary between areas. The work covers the main topic areas of:
- Smoking
- Food
- Physical activity
- Alcohol
- Sexual health
- Emotional health and wellbeing
- Health promotion
Specific activities include:
- Specialist stop smoking advice and support
- Community stop smoking groups
- Support to help mothers breastfeed and wean their babies onto healthy foods
- Allotment / grow your own schemes to help local people grow their own fruit and vegetables
- Healthy cooking courses helping people to cook healthy meals on a budget
- Breakfast clubs to provide children with healthy breakfasts
- Family weight management - A range of fun exercises classes in a variety of settings
- Raising awareness around the health risks of binge drinking, substance misuse and sexual health issues
- Raising awareness of national and local health initiatives such as screening programmes and health promotion campaigns
- Local information on activities and initiatives that promote emotional wellbeing
- Asking local people what support they need and feeding this back to mainstream services
- Advice on keeping your mouth and teeth healthy
- One to one support for families to improve health
- Providing advice on immunisation and infection control
