Data Protection considerations

Legal Requirement: All instances where personal information is gathered electronically must  be accompanied by a statement (or prominent link to a statement) that explains how the gathered data will be utilised.

Where an online form is provided that requires a user to enter personal details such as their email address, a home address or a contact telephone number, a link to the web site privacy statement (see link at foot of this page) must be added close to where the SUBMIT button is located.

This still applies even if the Submit button is close to the foot of the page where a permanent link to the privacy statement appears.

Note: there is no need to provide this information when just an email address is included on a web page.

Data Protection Policy

Salford City Council is fully committed to compliance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998 which came into force on 1 March 2000.

The city council has a Data Protection Policy which aims to ensure that all employees, elected members, contractors, agents, consultants, partners or other servants of the council who have access to any personal data held by or on behalf of the council, are fully aware of and abide by their duties under the Data Protection Act 1998.

Data Protection Officer

If you have any specific enquiries about use of personal data, please contact the council's Data Protection Officer, Teresa Webb.  She may be contacted by calling 0161-793 2407 or by email teresa.webb@salford.gov.uk.
