When will my pages appear on the live web site?
Five times a day - at 8.00am, 1.00pm, 4.00pm, 6.00pm and 12 midnight.
The staging server
When you create or edit web pages for salford.gov.uk, they are published to what is known as a 'staging server'. The staging server enables you to view the objects you are publishing in a "safe environment" prior to the public being able to access or view them.
When do pages actually "go live"?
Three times a day - at 1.00pm, 4.00pm and 6.00pm. This happens by means of an automatic scheduled publishing routine that is controlled by the web team. This is enabled by what is known as a 'site replication' which uploads changed or new web content from the staging server to the 'live' (or public) server after which they may be viewed by web users outside Salford City Council.
I've created a page but it hasn't appeared on the live site yet!
For a page to be scheduled for publication on the live server it must have completed the workflow cycle and have been approved for publication (see Quality Control).
I've got an urgent page update! Can you do anything for me?
Of course! Talk to the web team and we'll arrange for an additional replication to take place to suit your requirements.
I need a particular web page to appear at a specific time. Can you fix that?
Yes. One of the benefits of Obtree is that we can set web pages to appear on the live server at a given date and/or time (and to disappear too!).
Need more information about site replication?
Please contact Steve McComb (steve.mccomb@salford.gov.uk) or call 0161-793 2958.
