Highway design

The Highways Group of Salford City Council consists of two teams of experienced engineers providing a design and supervision service for the construction of a wide variety of civil engineering works. These range from multi-million pound highway bypasses, to resurfacing of roads, traffic calming schemes, derelict land reclamation projects and improvements of riverside/canal walkways.

The Highways Group undertakes the design of schemes using the industry standard equipment, AutoCAD with up-to-date software packages and in accordance with the Highways Agency design manuals, projects are specified and billed using the Manual of Contract Documents for Road and Bridge works.

The group has experienced engineers at all levels and is capable in preparing documents for tender through a variety of contracts; New Engineering Contract, I.C.E. 5th Edition.

Thorough liaison with all outside organisations i.e. Railtrack, Manchester Ship Canal, Statutory Undertakers, British Waterways Board, etc, is ensured through the Quality Assurance procedures.

Qualified and experienced Clerks of Works in conjunction with the Engineer, producing high quality projects, carry out supervision and checking of works on-site.

The group is capable of administering the role of planning supervisor to the requirements of the Construction, Design and Management Regulations 1994 (CDM) and in producing the necessary Health and Safety Plans and Files.
