Welcome home your heroes

A parade of soldiers

The 2nd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers will march through Swinton on Tuesday 1 December 2009 following their tour of Afghanistan. This homecoming parade is a unique opportunity to show support for your local regiment.

The parade will start at 11.00am at Victoria Park and will finish at Salford Civic Centre on Chorley Road where the Mayor will salute the passing troops. The Mayor will then host a private reception for the Battalion.

The 2nd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers have strong links to Lancashire and Salford and this is an opportunity for the city to welcome local soldiers who have been stationed in Helmand.

Come along and help welcome these soldiers home; everyone is invited to line the streets and watch the parade so bring a flag and cheer as these brave men and women parade through Swinton.

Watching the parade

The parade route will be closed to cars, but it is recommended that you find a convenient place on the pavement to watch and avoid standing in the road.

To watch the start of the parade the best place to stand is near to the Farmers Arms pub on Manchester Road.

To watch the end of the parade and see the Mayor's salute to the returning soldiers, find space on Chorley Road opposite the sunken gardens.
