Housing Planning Guidance
The Housing Planning Guidance document provides advice, which expands on policies in the Unitary Development Plan (UDP) related to housing issues. The purpose of the guidance is to provide additional planning advice on housing issues, supporting the policies of the UDP, in order to ensure that new development helps to create mixed and sustainable communities. It focuses on the following issues:
- The mix of dwelling types (in terms of apartments or houses);
- The size of dwellings;
- The provision of affordable housing; and
- Identifying a need for student accommodation
Although the guidance does not have the status of the development plan it will be a material consideration in the determination of planning applications for housing.
The draft version of this guidance was originally produced in the form of a Supplementary Planning Document, and public consultation into the draft took place between 19 May 2006 and 29 June 2006. The city council have considered the representations received during the consultation period and have incorporated these into Housing Planning Guidance.
The Housing Planning Guidance was adopted by the city council on 20 December 2006. The guidance (and associated documents) can be downloaded below.
