  • Cheque by post - cheques should be made payable to 'Salford City Council'. Please ensure that your council tax account reference number is quoted on the back of your cheque. Your cheque should be posted to the Strategic Director of Customer and Support Services, Salford City Council, Unity House, Chorley Road, Swinton, Salford M27 5AW.

When making payment by Payzone at a Post Office or by PayPoint please make your payment at least four days before the payment is due, so it will be credited to your account in time. If you are sending a payment by post, please send it a few days before the payment is due. Do not send cash payments through the post, if you wish to make a cash payment please use Payzone, Post Office or PayPoint outlets.

All council tax payers are entitled to pay their current year's bill by a maximum of ten monthly instalments. The number of instalments will be reduced depending on the time of year in which the bill is issued. Direct Debit is the council's preferred payment method as it helps reduce administration and costs. Over 48,000 households in Salford already pay this way. Because Direct Debit offers efficiencies the council is able to offer the advantage of three alternative payment dates other than the first day of each month, these are 5, 15 and 25 of each month. If you decide to pay by Direct Debit there are other advantages too:

  • you do not have to complete a new Direct Debit request each year
  • you will not have to remember to make your payments
  • you will not have to pay the postage to send us a payment
  • you will not have to queue up in the Post Office or local shop
  • you are covered by the Direct Debit guarantee scheme offered by your bank
