Independent walking

We want to encourage people who live and work in Salford to walk independently, to promote the message of 'doing at least 30 minutes of moderate activity on at least five days of the week.'

If you're interested in walking and would like some routes to try by yourself or with friends you can download six route cards for walks in Eccles, Winton and Barton below.

What the route cards include:

  • A map and step by step written description of the route
  • Most route cards have an alternative shorter route
  • Key with all features off the map, including benches and toilets, see below for an example route card

An example route card

Independent walking pack

The routes have been created as part of an independent walking pack, which contains the route cards and information on health, physical activity and walking.

Numbers are limited but If you would like to receive a pack please email your name and address to jo.bennett@scll.co.uk and we'll pop one in the post.

Development plan

We would like to develop an independent walking pack in all other seven neighbourhood areas, so a total of eight packs city wide, with six route cards in each pack (plus alternative routes on each card). So once complete, city wide we will have 48 health walks routes plus, some shorter alternative routes.
