Insurance Fraud

The council is exposing an increasing number of fraudulent insurance claimants. If you think someone is making a bogus insurance claim against the council, please report it to the council's Honesty Action Line on 0808 100 1235. Information received will help us to take action against people who make false insurance claims. Every pound we save by preventing this type of fraud can be spent on local services. Most of these insurance claims are fair and genuine but some will be false in some way. Bogus claims cost the council (and therefore the taxpayer)money, in compensation and increased insurance premiums.

The risk and insurance team, working in partnership with in-house services and local police, are committed to thoroughly investigating every application for compensation no matter how small. With the information held on our database, we will proactively identify individuals making repeat fraudulent claims. We treat all fraud seriously; rigorous detailed checks, including the compilation of claimant and witness profiles, are now routinely carried out.

The council's Honesty Action Line provides a means for staff and public alike to report concerns about all types of fraud. The information provided is treated in the strictest confidence and all matters received are investigated.
