A new multi million pound high school opened its doors to pupils for the first time in September 2011. The state of the art building is one of two new schools in the vanguard of Salford's Building Schools for the Future programme. Built on the existing school site, the new school has 900 places for 11 to 16 year-olds and a 150 place sixth form. The local community will also benefit directly from this £24 million investment. An extensive range of indoor and outdoor spaces, rooms and pitches is available for local people and clubs to hire.

The new school features a variety of modern learning spaces, outdoor classrooms, a new sports hall, gym and a flood-lit all weather pitch. Budding performers will also have a new music technology suite, performance hall and dance and drama workshops.

There is a community centre on the school grounds where the neighbourhood management team along with staff from the health, youth, arts and park ranger services are all be based. This is about residents, students and local services all working together for Irlam and Cadishead.

Head teacher of Irlam and Cadishead College, John Ferguson said: "The new facility is set to provide an inspirational learning environment for students and a focal point for the community. The contemporary design places learning and teaching at its core, with a range of teaching rooms, zones and flexible spaces, to meet the ever changing needs and demands of the twenty first century."
