Irwell City Park

Imagine a place in the heart of the city, yet offering a retreat from the rollercoaster of modern urban life.

A place with its own very special character, energy and style just a few minutes walk from all of the city's amenities.

A place that links old with new, museum with cathedral, one city with another and two communities as one. A place to live, to work, to visit, to stay or simply to sit and dream.

Imagine a park that provides all of that! That place is Irwell City Park.

Irwell City Park is being led by a cross boundary collaboration involving Manchester City Council, Salford City Council, Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council and Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company, who have united to transform one of the North West’s most unique waterways. 8 km of riverside will be developed into an accessible, attractive and vibrant waterfront for all to enjoy.

The Irwell City Park planning guidance, which will support the delivery of Irwell City Park, was approved by Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council, Manchester City Council and Salford City Council in March 2008. Discussions are taking place around potential public and private sector resources that could be used to transform the area. An application was made to the North West Development Agency in October 2008 to support pre-project implementation work and we will hear in November if we have been successful.

The images below show what sections of Irwell City Park may look like along the 8km it covers.
