Landscape Character Assessment

Salford City Council has prepared a Landscape Character Assessment for the open countryside and urban fringe areas of Salford based on guidance produced by the Countryside Agency 2002. Landscape descriptions are provided for the four key character types (i.e. Rural Mosslands, Urban Mosslands, Urban Fringe Lowland and Urban River Valley) and their nine subdivisions, which have been identified. A set of policy objectives and guidelines for the maintenance, enhancement and/or restoration of each subdivision is then provided.

Salford's Landscape Character Assessment supplements the Design SPD. Both documents were the subject of public consultation from 14 September 2007 until 25 October 2007.
