National developments
In November 2005, the government published "14-19 Education and Skills: Implementation Plan". Key milestones in the 14-19 Implementation Plan include:
In 2006
- subject by subject coursework review;
- school achievement tables to include English and maths;
- teaching begins on new Key Stage 4 science GCSEs;
- trialling of functional skills in English, maths and ICT
In 2008
- the first five of fourteen specialised Diplomas introduced;
- extended projects and revised A levels with additional stretch;
In 2009
- a further five specialised Diplomas introduced;
- first teaching of the GCSEs in English and ICT revised to include functional skills;
In 2010
- first teaching of GCSE in maths revised to include functional skills;
- the final four specialised Diplomas introduced, meaning that the full range of specialised diplomas will be taught.
