Diplomas
As a result of the 14-19 Implementation Plan the government announced its plans to introduce 14 Diploma lines , with the first five starting in 2008, followed by a further five in 2009, four in 2010 and a further three in 2011. All 17 lines will become an entitlement for young people at Key Stage 4 by 2013.
In March 2007 we heard that we had been successful in our bid to offer the Creative and Media Diploma from September 2008. We hope to be be able to offer Diplomas in IT, construction and the built environment;society, health and development; hospitality and catering; hair and beauty from September 2009.

- Hospitality & catering

- Public services
- Sport and leisure
- Retail

- Languages
The qualifications will be delivered at levels 1, 2 and 3 as follows:
Foundation (Level 1) – 600 guided learning hours, roughly comparable with 5 GCSEs (D-G) – half curriculum time over Key Stage 4
Higher (Level 2) – 800 guided learning hours, roughly comparable with GCSEs (A*-C) – just over half curriculum time over Key Stage 4
Advanced (Level 3) – 1080 guided learning hours, roughly comparable with 3.5 A levels
The Diplomas comprise the following:
Principal learning – knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes relevant to a sector and opportunities to apply these in realistic work environment
Additional/specialist learning
Generic learning Includes:
- functional skills in English, maths and ICT, based on experiential learning – trials from January 2007, pilots from September 2007
- personal, learning and thinking skills
- a project offering the chance to show potential
