Entry to Employment (e2e)

If you’re not quite ready for an apprenticeship, an e2e training course at Salford Skills Centre is the ideal stepping stone for 16-18 year olds.

It is designed to help develop your motivation and confidence. You will learn basic skills like english and maths, as well as skills and knowledge relevant to work. The aim is that you will progress to an apprenticeship, further learning or a job. As long as you are attending regularly, and continually showing that you are motivated, Salford Skills Centre will not give up on helping find the right path for you.

Learning takes place both in and outdoors, in classrooms or with one-to-one coaching, in group activities and discussions, speaker presentations, e-learning, work placements and experience, external visits, outward bound activities and volunteering. The amount of time you spend on the programme is tailored to your needs, but is usually between 16 and 40 hours a week.

What does e2e include?
On e2e you will study the following key elements:

  • Basic skills.
  • Key skills.
  • NVQ Level 1 or Level 2 units.
  • Personal development opportunities such as inter-personal relations.
  • Vocational knowledge and skills.
  • Career awareness and management skills.
  • Employability skills including problem solving, effective thinking, team working.
  • Work placements/tasters.
  • Citizenship knowledge and awareness.

Work placements
We give you as much support as possible, your skills officer will ensure that you know what times and days you will be attending your placement. Plus, we will ensure that you can get there on time and we even pay your bus fare. All we ask is that you complete two weeks in placement, so you have the chance to understand the job. If after two weeks you decide that you don’t like it, that is fine. The whole purpose of work experience is to find out what the job is like and whether it’s the right one for you. There is no limit on the different vocational areas for you to try - your training officers will keep trying until we find the right one for you.

What about cash?
On E2E you are able to apply for an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is £10, £20 or £30 per week, depending on your household income.  In addition, your expenses will be met in full. You'll also get bonuses for starting e2e and for positive outcomes such as completing your Individual Activity Plan, distance travelled or gaining a qualification.

The money is paid directly into your bank account. Once it’s there, you can use it to pay for whatever you like - for example, books, travel or equipment.

To find out more or to apply for an EMA visit the Education Maintenance Allowance website or call 0808 10 16219.
