Charlestown and North Grecian Street proposal
Your opportunity to comment on the proposals to establish a new school
The new school
Salford City Council has identified a need for a new 420 place primary school. In line with the provisions of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 a notice was published in June 2007 inviting proposals from organisations interested in establishing the new school. The new school will replace North Grecian Street School, whose buildings are old and despite everyone's best efforts, are hard to maintain and Charlestown primary school whose premises are not well suited to the delivery of a 21st century curriculum.
In October Salford City Council received a proposal which was published by the local authority in November 2007. No other proposal was received. Publication of the proposal triggered a six week representation period which provided opportunities for the public to make comment. These comments were taken into account by the independent Schools Adjudicator who made a decision approving the closure of the two primary schools and the establishment of a replacement school.
