Helping your child to learn
How you can help your child do well at nursery and primary school.
School is not the only place your child will learn. You and your family are the first and most important teachers your child has. Salford schools aim to build strong links between home and school so that you can be fully involved in your child’s education.
You can prepare for this by:
- encouraging your child to look forward to going to nursery or primary school
- visiting nursery and schools together
- getting your child used to spending time away from you
- telling the staff about any special interests your child has or any experiences your child has had.
You can be involved by:
- spending time in the nursery with your child
- working with staff to plan a learning programme for your child
- helping to record your child’s progress
- following up activities with your child at home - talk about what they have been doing at school.
Nursery staff and parents working together in partnership will give your child the best possible start and make their first experience of school both stimulating and fun.
If you feel there is something you wish to know or something you wish to tell the school you should ask to see your child’s teacher or headteacher. These people are very experienced in dealing with matters which may worry you, whether to do with the curriculum or with anything else. They will always want to discuss any matter that concerns or interests you.
