School reports and plans

Every Local Authority (LA) produces a number of plans. Some plans cover a wide range of the authority's activities, whereas others are produced to address more specific issues.

These plans ensure that the authority continues to improve the way in which it carries out its responsibilities. It is very important that you make your views known to us so that we get our plans right.

Here are the current education plans and reports. Where these plans are drafts and we are seeking your views to help us to complete them, the links will be marked with an asterisk (*). The other plans have already been agreed and published, but we would still welcome any comments you may have:

  • Asset Management Plan - Statement of Priorities 2003-2006 - this document will allow schools, dioceses and other local partners, as well as the DfES, to have a coherent view of local priorities. It will also help to show the link between needs, funding, the prioritisation process and the resultant capital programme and its outputs.
  • Education Development Plan: 2002-2003 - Evaluation - this document provides an evaluation of the EDP for the year 2002-03.
  • Education Development Plan: 2003-2008 - the LEA's statement of the actions it intends to take, with the various partners and stakeholders, to raise standards and aspirations and improve the quality of education for the children and young people of the city.
  • Ofsted 2003 LEA Inspection Report - "Support for Salford's schools is getting better and better - but there's still lots to do."
  • Ofsted 2003 Report Summary - A summary report on the 2003 Ofsted inspection of Salford's schools.
  • Individual Ofsted Reports
Ofsted inspects nurseries, schools, colleges, teacher training providers, Local Authorities (LAs) and much more.
  • Primary School Places Review
The Primary School Places Review was prompted by the report of 2000 Ofsted inspection of the LA which commented on the unacceptable level of surplus places. In order to address this the LA undertook a comprehensive citywide review of primary school places. The details and recommendations are contained within this report.
  • School Organisation Plan: 2003-2008 - the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 and The Education(School Organisation Plans) (England) Regulations 1999, require all Local Authorities to prepare and publish a School Organisation Plan. The purpose of the School Organisation Plan is to set out how the LA intends to secure the provision of sufficient and suitable school places to meet the needs of the local population in Salford, including the need to add or remove surplus places within the authority.
  • School Organisation Plan - Demographic Information: Sept 2004
  • Schools Causing Concern Policy - Ofsted inspects and the LA monitors the performance of schools. In a small number of instances concerns are identified which need to be put right.
