Excellence in Cities
Salford is a phase one Excellence in Cities Partnership area. We have received EiC funding since September 1999 – Secondary Phase and September 2002 – Primary Phase.
The focus of Salford’s Excellence in Cities Partnership is to:
- To improve educational standards and levels of attainment in all phases of education but particularly in secondary schools.
- To raise aspirations.
- To promote social inclusion.
- To build public confidence in education in Salford.
The Partnership aims to raise achievement and aspiration by improving leadership, promoting positive attitudes to education and transforming learning in Salford.
To deliver this the EiC Partnership will work collaboratively with other educational service providers and external partners. These include:
- Salford Children’s Services Directorate (Particularly School and Learning Development, Transition and Inclusion Sections).
- All Schools and other educational providers, including local community provision.
- Headteachers, teachers, other staff working in education/schools, governors, parents and external providers.
The aim of EiC is to drive up standards in schools in major cities higher and faster to match the standards of excellence found in our best schools.
Parents and children in inner cities should expect and gain as much from their schools as those anywhere else in the country.
There are nine main strands of EiC:
- Aimhigher
- Behaviour Improvement Programme
- City Learning Centres
- EiC Action Zones
- Gifted and Talented
- Learning Mentors
- Learning Support Units
- Leadership Incentive Grant
- Specialist Schools
