Drama and dance
Part of Salford's Music & Performing Arts Service
The drama and dance elements of the service feature prominently in activities offered across the city. Workshops in drama and dance take place regularly in the schools throughout the year; available to a wide age range. They focus on a relevant theme or topic, or are tailored to suit the needs of the school.
MAPAS arts centres offer a range of drama, theatre and dance opportunities for a variety of ages. The groups continue to flourish and expand, performing regularly at the concerts, festivals and showcases throughout the year.
The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) examinations are now available to all pupils from 6 years upwards in Salford, allowing young people to pursue further vocal training in drama.
Drama and dance projects are regularly offered within MAPAS, and performed at various venues throughout Salford. Drama and dance have featured in many special high profile events enabling MAPAS to fly the flag for Salford's young people, celebrating their talents. Projects have included work with major dance, opera and theatre companies, performing in The Lowry - Salford Quays, and at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. There are regular opportunities to perform. The latest addition to Arts Centre activities is the Musical Theatre Group, and the establishment of the annual musical.
