Friends of MAPAS

Part of Salford's Music & Performing Arts Service

Think of the Friends of MAPAS and think tuck shop, but is that all we do?

Well at the moment yes, because of dwindling numbers of parents who know about us, and what we have the potential to do.

Last year we funded the coach for the junior groups visit to Conwy, entrance for the trip to Drayton Manor for the children involved in the summer “Schoolabout” tour and for the senior group who travelled to Germany entrance into a theme park, aqua park, ten pin bowling and wine tasting. Not bad for a few bars of chocolates!

We also now stock spare reeds, mouthpieces, valve oil and a whole host of maintenance items for brass and woodwind instruments.

Minutes of the A.G.M.

Held on 3 November 2008

The meeting was attended by eight people. We started with a look at the accounts and then discussed the cost of sending the children to Australia, which is currently working out at £3,058 per child.

Twinning and exchange schemes were discussed.

Tricia asked the committee members if they were all happy to be signatories and all agreed.

Neil came up with a great idea, a website called “easyfunding.org.uk” pay a percentage to your cause when you order through their web page for your shopping. It could raise a lot of money if we can get it up and running before Christmas.

The next comittee meeting will be on the 17 November 2008 at 6.30pm.

All children get to benefit at some stage from the work that the Friends do. If you are prepared to give some time please contact Tricia Rose on 0161 778 0259 or mapas@salford.gov.uk.
