Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs)
New Induction Standards came into force from 1st September 2003. NQTs who start their induction period on or after that date should be assessed against the new Induction Standards. The document which summarises the arrangements for the completion of a period of induction is 'The Induction Support Programme for Newly Qualified Teachers' and can be obtained by ringing 0870 000 2288 and quoting reference no. DfES 0458/2003
It outlines the Induction Standards against which NQTs are assessed and gives guidance on how headteachers and other staff should support, monitor and assess NQTs during their first three terms of teaching, by setting out the roles and responsibilities of each of those involved in the induction support programme.
