Family reading

Becoming a family that shares…BOOKS!

Sharing books is a rewarding and enjoyable activity for parent and child alike, reading together can also be a bonding experience.

  • For very young children, choose brightly coloured books with different textures and interactive features like ‘lift-the-flaps’
  • Encourage young children to join in the story – guessing what happens next, pointing, repeating words and phrases and talking about the pictures
  • Try to choose books that reflect your child’s own interests
  • Show an interest in the books your children are choosing to read. Read the same book as them so you can discuss it or read something else by the same author
  • Be a reading role model for your child; let them see you reading
