Information for the community
Our proposals would create schools that are about much more than activities in the classroom – schools that are at the heart of their community.
We propose to extend the use of school sites. This would make more efficient use of schools and provide better access to local services.
Part of our overall vision for secondary education was to create an academy - and Oasis academy: MediaCityUK opened to replace Hope High School in September 2008. The academy is run by sponsor the Oasis Community Learning, as an all ability school for 900 pupils between the ages of 11-16 years. It specialises in the media industry, with a focus on enterprise.
On its new site the academy will also provide education and training for 16-18 year olds - a further 250 students. The academy which will be built at Salford Quays will link to the proposed MediaCityUK development which is the prospective new home of both key departments of the BBC and a cluster of media and creative companies
In late 2006, we submitted an outline planning application for building work at Salford Quays. The outline planning application was to establish that the proposal was acceptable in principle. Information was sent out to local households/businesses. The outline planning application was approved on 1 February 2007.
