St Ambrose Barlow RC High School
The BSF programme proposal is to refurbish this school and this would be scheduled to be completed by September 2012.
This investment will allow us to make significant changes, transforming the learning environment. There would be a substantial programme of refurbishment including selective demolition and new build elements.
Careful planning will be needed to ensure that we gain the greatest possible benefit from the refurbishment. Consideration will be given to what re-modelling can be done to give working spaces a new look and a new feel, to make them suitable for the kind of learning that young people will be given the opportunity to experience in the future.
The original school building was built in 1955 with extensions being added in 1965, 1967, 1975, 1995 and 2000. This piecemeal development has led to a number of isolated blocks of various ages. A detailed study has been undertaken to identify areas of improvement which will impact positively upon the suitability, sufficiency and condition of the school and inform the process of redesign. The refurbishment programme will be accompanied by a programme of investment in world class ICT facilities.
The statutory school consultation on the closure of St George's RC High School, refurbishment of St Ambrose Barlow RC High School and provision of a new school building for All Hallows RC High School ended on 1 October to 30 November 2007.
