If your child will be transferring to a secondary school in September 2009 you can now apply for a place online using our interactive form.

1.  Do you have a working email address? Tick

2.  Do you have parental responsibility for the child for which you are applying for a place? Tick

3.  Is your child a Salford resident? Tick

If you can answer "yes" to the above questions then you're ready to apply for a school place online.

Our interactive form will guide you through the process so that you only need to fill in the sections that apply to your application.

The step-by-step process of applying for a school place online is as follows:

  1. Before you can make your application you will need to register using a valid, working email address.
  2. Once you have registered we will send you an email (straight away) containing your a password which you must then use to login to the application form.
  3. If you are applying for more than one child you will need to fill in a separate application for each child.
  4. If you change your mind after submitting your application you can login and change your preferences at any point up until the deadline of 24 October.2008

Where can you find out more information on the application process?

You should have already received a secondary admission booklet and application pack that explains the secondary admissions process in full, it is important that you read this booklet before completing the online form. If you do apply for a place using this online service there’s no need to fill in the paper form too.

In order to apply for a secondary school place your child must be a Salford resident, even if you want to apply for a secondary school outside of the Salford Local Authority (LA).

We aim to help parents/carers get a place at the school they consider most appropriate for their child. However, as many schools receive more applications than they have places, we need a process to decide which children get a place and which have to go to other schools. As a result we ask for you to select a number of schools and rank them in preference order.

How are secondary school places allocated?
Places in schools maintained by Salford LA are allocated using the published admissions criteria (see your secondary admissions booklet). Independent schools and schools outside Salford LA may have different admissions criteria please contact either the controlling LA or the school directly for a copy of their criteria.

The deadline for making your application is 24 October 2008.

Please remember that your child is not guaranteed a place at a school of your preference at this stage but consideration will be given to your request. An email followed by a letter will be sent to you on the 2 March 2009 informing you of the place which has been allocated to your child.
