Computer training

ICT in the community are able to offer ‘free’ computer classes in lots of venues around the city.
We have classes running in most of the libraries and at lots of other venues close to you.
Our speciality is helping people learn how to use a computer, people who may have thought they would never be able to do that. What a surprise for your child/grandchild, on the other side of the world, to receive an email from their grannie or granddad. The classes are held in small, tutor led groups in a very relaxed environment, and ages range from young adult to a person aged 91 with no pressure of an exam!. The skills you learn may also help your career plans whether it is to get a better job or help you get into employment if you currently do not have one.
We can offer you a first steps introduction to computers course aimed at complete beginners and a slightly higher progression course for those who take your learning one step further. Both these courses are non certified and last for 16 weeks (2 hours each week), including 6 weeks on internet and email while the first 10 weeks will cover things ranging from “how to switch it on” to an understanding of the main programmes like word processing (Microsoft Word)
Improving your skills
Our courses are a good grounding for those of you who want to progress onto higher level nationally recognised courses like the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL), please see Certificated computer courses. If you would like to learn how to manipulate images from your digital camera, or to repair old photographs, we can offer you a free Photoshop Elements course at the One Stop Shop in Little Hulton.. Alternatively, if you are more practically minded then you can get a screwdriver in your hand and find out about what is inside a computer, by attending the computer maintenane class at Kenyon Way Community Centre from 7.00 pm to 9.30 pm on a Wednesday and Thursday.
Application form
If you are interested in any of the computer training we offer you may complete an application form, which is available at all Salford Libraries, or complete an online form on the application form page. Alternatively you can contact any member of the Community Telematics Team, who will be pleased to help you. Once we receive your form your name will be placed on our waiting list, and a place offered at the earliest opportunity.
For further information about any of our services please contact a member of the ICT in the Community Team (Community Telematics), who will be pleased to assist you.
