Active lifestyles
Being active is one of the best ways to look after your whole self. Just 30 minutes of moderate activity most days of the week can keep your body and mind in tip top condition!
The Active Lifestyles Team offer a wide range of enjoyable and sociable activities which you can take part in no matter what your current activity levels or health status.
You can chose from one of many Health Walks throughout the whole of Salford, take part in gentle chair based exercise class, improve your arthritis by learning Tai Chi or look after your heart by joining your local Healthy @ Heart class.
Nordic Walking
Originating from summer training for cross-country skiers, Nordic Walking works your upper and lower body at the same time, stregthening your back, legs and arms, reducing neck and shoulder tension - all this while improving the health of your heart and lungs. Join a workshop and learn good Nordic Walking techniques, meet other people to Nordic Walk with locally. Exel poles provided. Healthy @ Heart
Healthy @ Heart is a programme of activities prescribed by qualified instructors for people with heart conditions, or people with high risk factors for heart disease, e.g. diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, family history of heart disease or obesity.
There are currently 15 Healthy @ Heart exercise classes throughout Salford, and the programme also provides access to Salford Fit City Gyms and Pools.
To qualify for the scheme you must have one of the aforementioned conditions and will need to see your GP or Practice Nurse or Health Professional to be referred to the Healthy @ Heart Programme.

Many of our activities are delivered in partnership with Salford PCT and with new activities being set up near you every month there couldn't be a better time to start leading an active lifestyle!
Postural Stability Classes
Postural Stability classes are designed for people who have experienced a fall or have a fear of falling or may suffer with poor posture and balance.
The aims of the class are:
- to improve older peoples stability during standing, transferring, walking and other functional movement
- Strengthening the muscles around the hip, knee & ankle
- Increase the flexibility of the trunk & lower limbs
- Relearning skills of everyday living and maintenance of upright posture during balance challenges
Class Content
Each class
lasts for 60 minutes and will include:
- Warm up
- gentle endurance work
- resistance exercises using therabands
- balance work
- a 10 minute cool down followed by a cup tea and a chat!
Classes are free and held at four venues across Salford; Fit City Ordsall, Fit City Worsley, Fit City Cadishead and Salford Sports Village. Transport can be provided free of charge to help you get to and from the venue.
