School Sports Team

The Active School Team's aim is to assist schools to give the children of Salford the best possible start in physical education and sport. To achieve this we combine local and national initiatives to help enhance school provision. These include:

  • Coaching for schools:- our large coaching team works in schools to help deliver specialist sport sessions in curriculum time and after school clubs. We provide lesson plans and pupil assessments, organise inter-school competitions, offer exit routes for children to play sport outside of the school setting and introduce pupils to sports leadership and coaching.
  • Sport Unlimited:- Not for Boys is part of Sport Unlimited programme and part of the 5 Hour Offer to engage 5-16 year olds in 5 hours of high quality P.E. and sport at school.  Targeted at semi-sporty girls (middle band) at key stage 3&4.  To build confidence and development & encourage children to join clubs and community sessions/groups.  Based on statistics from year 7&9 surveys, a team of coaches will deliver high quality PE in secondary schools via after school clubs and as curriculum support to existing PE staff.
  • Training for Teachers:- We help teachers refresh and update their knowledge, learn about new sports and gain further qualifications by running Coaching for Teachers courses in association with the LEA. We also provide TOPS training in play, sport, dance, gymnastics, athletics and outdoor activities which also allows teachers to access resource cards and equipment.
  • Information, Support and Advice:- We assist schools in bidding for awards for all grants to improve facilities, equipment and out of school provision. We advise schools aiming to achieve Activemark or Sportsmark accreditation, which recognise and reward schools for their commitment to providing the very best physical education and sport for their pupils.
