Constitution

The name of the organisation shall be called Salford Sports Council (SSC).

Objectives

  • To promote and advance sport in Salford
  • To promote sporting opportunities and develop further the interests of all Salford-based sports clubs
  • To provide funding advice and workshops to sports clubs in Salford
  • To provide guest speakers and coach education workshops for sports clubs in Salford

Membership

The organisation shall consist of the officers and members of the group.

Membership of the organisation shall be open to all, there will be no restrictions on grounds of sex, age, race, political or religious beliefs, and shall be open to any club or club representative in the Salford area who accepts and supports the organisation's objectives.  

Membership of the organisation shall be open to any person or sports club completing an Affiliation form and paying the annual relevant affiliation fee as determined by the AGM.  

  • One representative from the Sports Development Team  
  • One representative from the PE Advisory Team  
  • One representative from the City Leisure Team  
  • One representative from the Youth Service

Officers

Officers of the organisation shall be as follows: Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary/Treasurer

Managing the Group

The duties of the organisation's committee shall be:

  • To control the affairs of the Organisation on behalf of the members  
  • To elect officers of the Committee at the Annual General Meeting where officers will serve for a period of one year. They may also be re-elected to the same office or another office the following year  
  • To keep accurate financial accounts of the organisation through the Treasurer; these will be available for reasonable inspection by the committee and will be audited before every Annual General Meeting  
  • The organisation shall maintain a bank account requiring the signatures of two unrelated officers (Chair and Secretary)
  • To make decisions on the basis of a majority vote. In the case of equal votes, the Chair shall be entitled to an additional casting vote

Annual General Meetings

The AGM will be held no later than the end of May each year.

The organisation will give a copy of written notice to each member of the organisation at least 21 days before the AGM is to take place.

The Business of the AGM will be:

  • To confirm the minutes of the previous AGM and any General Meeting held since the last AGM  
  • To receive the audited accounts for the year from the Treasurer  
  • To receive the annual report of the committee from the Secretary  
  • To elect an auditor  
  • To elect the officers of the organisation  
  • To review and agree the organisation's affiliation fees for the next year

Members must advise the Secretary in writing of any business to be moved at the AGM at least 14 days before the meeting. The Secretary shall circulate or give notice of the agenda for the meeting to members not less than 7 days before the meeting.

A Quorum for a General Meeting shall be not less than 7 Officers or members of the organisation.

Each club affiliated to the organisation will be entitled to one vote at General Meetings.

The chair and vice chair will be entitled to one vote at General Meetings.

Constitution Amendments

Any proposed alterations to the organisation's constitution may only be considered at the AGM. Any alteration or amendment must be proposed by a member of the organisation and seconded by another.

Dissolution Clause

A meeting will be called after discharging all debts and liabilities of the organisation. The remaining assets shall not be paid or distributed amongst the members of the group, but shall be given or transferred to some other voluntary organisation within Salford having objects similar to those of the Salford Sports Council.

Affiliation

The organisation shall be affiliated to the North West Federation for Sport, Recreation and Conservation.
