Watersports Centre Front 2

Outside

During the 1980s, Salford City Council had a dream to turn a derelict dockland into an internationally renowned development. In 1993 a temporary watersports facility was set up, although it was always intended that a permanent centre should be constructed. Thanks to an award of £1,490,865 from the National Lottery towards the total cost of £1,911,365 this dream is now a reality.

The building itself was designed by the city council's Development Services Architectural and Design Team who also managed the contract from start to finish. It is a two storey construction with a structural steel framework, concrete floors and an aluminium sheet roof decking which has a sinusoidal wave form giving a distinctive form to the building's shape.

The reception area is a light, bright area ensuring a warm welcome for visitors. There are lockers for the secure storage of personal items. Hover over the image for another view.
