If you are housebound or visually impaired you can still borrow books and find information from the Library Service. We have specially trained staff who will bring the service to your door.
We operate two specially adapted mobile library vans - one for people who are housebound and one for people who are visually impaired.
Both mobile libraries have:
- full disabled access
- highlighted grab rails
- large print books
- books on tape
- magnifying sheets
- limited number of cassette players and CD players available FREE to customers who need one
- a seated area should you wish to browse
- interior lighting at suitable levels
- trolleys and mobile equipment so that we can bring books into your home if necessary
Mobile library for housebound people
You can apply for this service if you live in Salford and·
- are physically unable to get to your local library and have no one to help you do so
- cannot get into your local library because of access problems
- may be able to get to the library but cannot carry your books back home
You may be able to use the service on a temporary basis, if you are recovering from an operation for example.
Mobile library for visually impaired people
You can apply for this free service if you live in Salford and are blind or visually impaired. We can arrange visits to your home, elderly persons’ residential or day-care centres, and social clubs for the blind.
Both these services are free, but you do need to register with us - you can fill out our online registration form, pick up a paper form at any Salford library or contact us at:
