Terms and conditions for computer use
Salford Libraries and Information Service provides free access to the People’s Network computers.
When you join you will be given copies of leaflets to help you make the most of the computers. This is a copy of the Terms and Conditions of use. You will be asked to sign the joining form to confirm you accept them.
- Having booked a session on one of the computers, you will be held personally responsible for the use made of that computer throughout the period of that session
- You must not alter the computer settings, delete any files or install your own software. These are offences under The Computer Misuse Act (1990)
- You are not permitted to create, sell, distribute, circulate, read or look at any material that is obscene, pornographic, racist, defamatory, grossly offensive or menacing in character. The Obscene Publications Act (1984) and the Telecommunications Act (1984) state that it is an offence to publish an obscene article and to transmit a message or any other matter that is grossly offensive, indecent or threatening over the telephone lines in England & Wales. This includes email messages
- You must be aware that Salford City Council monitors and filters Internet use. It is possible to identify sites users have visited and if inappropriate use is detected, further action may be taken. This may result in loss of access to library facilities or criminal proceedings
- You must ensure that you comply with the Copyright Design and Patents Act (1988) when creating, downloading or printing material. Only single copies of information should be downloaded, to be used for private study or research only
- You must be aware that Salford City Council is not responsible for damage to your disc or computer, or for any loss of data, any damage or liability that may occur from use of the People’s Network computers. Access to and use of the Internet is at your own risk
- You must be considerate to other library users and not make excessive noise or mistreat the equipment
- I understand that if I fail to comply with these guidelines, I may be denied Internet, computer or library access and may be liable for prosecution.
If you require further clarification of any of these points please speak to a member of staff.
You can also read The Health and Safety Guide and User Guide, and find out about how we make it easier for everyone to use the computers with special equipment.
