The 2005 Award
Winner announced!
The award ceremony took place at The Lowry on 18 January 2006, and Robert Muchamore's The Recruit was announced as the winner. The photograph shows him with Councillor Barry Warner, lead member for Culture and Sport.
Robert Muchamore received a Lowry print entitled “The Schoolyard” as his prize.
Other shortlisted authors Joseph Delaney, Alan Gibbons, Catherine MacPhail, and Robert Swindells attended and spoke about their books. Pupils from five local High Schools also took to the stage to discuss their favourite nominated book and their experiences of the judging process.
Councillor Warner commented:
“Salford’s young people did themselves proud. Not only did they select a worthy winner from the shortlist, but they also gave thought-provoking talks to the audience.”
