Picture Packs

Picture packs

These are folders of black and white images copied from Salford Heritage Service's collection of over 50,000 photographs.

The packs enable people to enjoy looking at old photographs and share their memories of people, places and events. Packs are available on:

Handling boxes

Handling box

The themed boxes contain original objects, photographs and other material that will trigger memories and stimulate reminiscences.

Boxes available include:

  • Glitz and Glamour
    Everything for the glamorous woman - clothes, hats, gloves, jewellery, a handbag, nylons, powder compact, all that was needed for the fashionable hair style; its even got the 'Evening in Paris' perfume!
  • Make Do and Mend
    Includes a vintage hand sewing machine and objects relating to sewing, knitting, crochet and darning. Includes everything needed to have a go at making a peg rug.
  • His not Hers: Objects for Gentlemen
    Braces and bow ties, collar studs and cigarette cases - everything apart from the cut throat razor!
  • Washing and Cleaning
    Objects to remind you of when washing took all day and cleaning took real stamina - donkey stone, carbolic soap, dolly blue, flat iron, posser, pinny - everything except the elbow grease!
  • Pick and Mix
    If you're not sure which topic to start with everyone is sure to find something to reminisce about with this selection of thirty objects that range from ladies bloomers to coronation souvenirs.
  • Mystery Objects
    A mixture of weird and wacky objects that are sure to get people guessing. Can be used as a quiz.
  • Home Front Memories
    Objects to bring back memories of wartime life - gas masks, dried egg, ration books - it even includes an evacuee's suitcase.
  • Salford Heritage Bingo
    This box combines the excitement of a game of bingo with the stimulation of a quiz and the opportunity to reminisce as well.

You call questions instead of numbers and the box includes photos and objects as 'clues. A proportion of the questions are Salford related. Prizes not provided!

Exhibitions

Pop up exhibition

There are currently three exhibitions available for loan:

  • Schooldays
  • Shopping
  • In the Kitchen

At just two metres wide the small eye catching displays are designed to fit restricted space in reception areas, lounges or dining rooms and are sure to trigger memories and stimulate reminiscences.

The pop up display stands are accompanied by boxes of handling objects and photographs that can be used for reminiscence sessions.
