The Same Sky by Nikki Parmenter:
28 July – 26 October 2008
Nikki is an artist and teacher who has exhibited widely both in this country and abroad and has taught in galleries, schools and community venues. She has developed a unique style of working employing a wide variety of mixed media elements to create intensely detailed and vibrant work. Her two most recent themes, Mandalas and The Same Sky are investigations into the symbolism and mythology of ancient and modern cultures.
The quotation “the same sky” from Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, sums up the motivation behind this series of pieces. It explores the mythology and symbolism invented by ancient cultures and how despite geographical and religious differences, societies sought to rationalise the world around them by creating pieces of art and artefacts. The similar mythology, symbolism and tradition betweenancient cultures from around the world are the inspiration for these intensively
The artist will be working in the gallery and discussing her work with the public on
Sunday 17 August 1.30pm - 3pm and Sunday 14 September 1.30pm - 3pm

Since its genesis in 1896 the University of Salford has sought to serve the needs of industry, commerce, the professions and society - locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. The transformational change project - Realising our Vision - is reflected in a series of images by the innovative local photographer, Andrew Paul Brooks. This is not-to-be-missed exhibition for anyone with an interest in the University and the city, tells the story of successes in the field of teaching, learning and ‘enterprise’ with inspiring and imaginative photography.
