Parks in Broughton & Blackfriars
Within Broughton and Blackfriars there are 5 public parks available for use. Adjacent to the University of Salford, Peel Park, opened on the 22nd August 1846, is possibly the world's first Public Park. The parks within Broughton and Blackfriars contain many traditional facilities that are all available for use. These range from crown green bowling, football, rugby and children's play areas to fishing at Clowes Park Lake. In more recent times modern works of art and sculpture have been added.
Albert Park, Grecian Street M7 1JF
The following facilities are available: bowling green - veterans' pavilion – football pitch – artificial sports pitch (managed by Education and Leisure) – car parking – equipped play area for 4-14 year olds.
Blackfriars Park, Mount Street M3 6LU
One of Salford’s smaller parks containing a playing field and several rose and shrub beds. Well equipped with seating areas, the park is popular with many local residents and provides an attractive location to gain fresh air and gentle exercise.
Clowes Park, New Hall Road M7 4HS
Clowes Park is a small but very attractive public park, dominated by a central lake with a circular footpath, viewing points and an attractive boat-house. Located in a reasonably affluent area of the city, it is surrounded by private housing, which also forms the park boundary. To the north of the lake is a large play area, a small area of woodland and a walled garden. Areas of seasonal bedding displays, rose beds, shrubs, herbaceous borders and rare trees are of particular interest.
Popular activities available include walking, sitting, fishing, feeding the ducks, informal games of football etc and children’s play.
The following facilities are available: Toilets - floral features - lake - fishing - equipped play area for 4-14 year olds.

Mandley Park, Leicester Road M7 4DU
Mandley Park is again one of the city’s smaller parks. With extensive wide-open areas of grass being available it is frequently used for informal recreation such as football or even dog walking.
The following facilities are available: Rugby pitch - equipped play area for 4-14 year olds.

Peel Park including David Lewis Sports Ground, The Crescent M5 4PD
Considered to be the world’s first public park, Peel Park has changed dramatically since opening in 1846. Adjacent to the once notorious slums of the Victorian era the park has evolved and now caters for both local visitors and students studying at the University of Salford.
