Parks in Walkden & Little Hulton
Within Walkden and Little Hulton there are 4 main key sites, catering for a wide age group which includes children's play areas, crown green bowls, tennis, rugby and formal gardens.
Parr Fold Park, Walkden Road, Walkden M28 7EA
Located in the centre of Walkden and contains many traditional features associated with a formal park.
It is one of only 2 parks within Salford that contains a bandstand, which was erected in 1935. The Cenotaph hosts the Remembrance Day service. Other features include: a memorial garden, a bowling green, pitch & putt course, floral features, equipped play area for 4-8 yrs, tennis courts, cenotaph and woodland.
All new lighting has been installed on pathways and in the bandstand area. Intergenerational bowling tournament planned for mid June, and Christmas Carol event on 23rd December 2008.
Peel Park, Little Hulton Manchester Road West M38 9EG
Opened in 1910 and extended in 1933. The park is situated off Manchester Road West and is close to the Bolton border.
The following facilities are available: equipped play area for 4-14 yrs, rugby pitch and floral features.
Salford City Council has secured funding via the Safer Stronger Communities Fund for a variety of projects within Winton and Little Hulton. As you will have noticed, Peel Park has had new lighting installed and improvements to the play equipment and safety surface.
The next phase is about to begin a new communal building is to be built at the front of the park adjacent to Ram Street.
It is anticipated that the building will be completed in March 08 and regular updates will appear on this page
St Mary’s Park, St. Mary’s Road, Walkden M28 3RF
An open park located to the north west of Walkden Town Centre. The park was opened on Easter Monday 26th of March 1894.
The following facilities are available: bowling green, equipped play area for 4-14 yrs, veterans' pavilion, 5-A-side pitch, tennis courts, floral features.
A brand new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) has also been installed through section 106 monies, and being well used. Working in partnership with the Bowling Club and other agencies to pursue the possibility of installing an all weather bowling pitch next to the new MUGA.
Guild Hall, Guild Avenue, Walkden M28 3AS
Situated near to Parr Fold park and containing a veterans' pavilion, 1 bowling green and 2 shale tennis courts. The tennis courts are leased to Guild Hall Tennis Club.
